Visiting Vallarta

We went to Vallarta, the IAAC Faculty where they offer the Master's in Ecological Architecture. We learned about their activities and operations, saw the hibernarium, and assisted with clearing weeds in the garden area. The experience was a change of environment as we were surrounded by nature. I would have liked to participate in an activity more related to design.

Soil

During our morning at the IAAC Faculty, we engaged in activities focused on understanding the significance of soil health in crop cultivation. Through experiments, we learned to identify various soil types and appreciate the complexities of soil consistency for optimal plant growth. This newfound understanding transformed my perception of soil from mere dirt to a vital component supporting life.

Jonathan, our guide, highlighted the importance of developing technologies to monitor soil health, emphasizing a symbiotic relationship between healthy soils, food production, and the planet. Our upcoming task involved germinating seeds from around the world for a small food forest, adding a global perspective to our experiment.

In a complementary activity, we analyzed our soil using a classification scheme, employing an app called Sqapp for differentiation based on shade and origin. Testing nitrite, nitrate levels, and pH provided a nuanced examination of our clay-like soil. This hands-on experience, combining traditional analysis and technology, underscored the multifaceted approach required for a comprehensive understanding of soil. Overall, these activities broadened my perspective on soil's importance and the delicate balance needed for sustainable coexistence with our planet

Reflexions

Agro Zero was a fairly introductory course to a world where there is a lot of opportunity for intervention and applying design. Unfortunately, it only remained at a theoretical level. I would have liked to be able to design and undertake a project to add it to my personal portfolio
